I was born and raised in New Zealand, and I learned early how to make things, and we used everything, recycled wood, plastic, anything to hand. I would describe my aesthetic as inspired by nature, the colors and textures that suit the kind of outdoor lifestyle that we enjoy here in California.
After studying industrial design in New Zealand, I started my own advertising modelmaking company in London. Here in California, I worked for years in the film industry as a special effects modelmaker for Lucas Film, including on the Star Wars prequels. My years in advertising, and in movies, taught me how to use an array of different materials and techniques. While working at Lucas I became interested in fiber optics, and how they lent scale to miniatures in 3D. Using fiber optic cable, I make small dioramas, from 6 x 6 inch cubes to larger framed landcapes.
Whether designing furniture, cabinetry, or lighting, I enjoy collaborating with clients and designers to help translate their ideas into beautiful, workable spaces and objects. For me a successful project begins and ends with good design, attention to detail, and finish.
My American wife and I live in the small, seaside town of Bolinas, just north of San Francisco, where I have a workshop, and do most of my designing and fabricating.
RECREATE YOUR SPACE
CUSTOM CABINETRY and ROOM DESIGN ~ in a variety of materials and finishes, painted or applied. And, if bare wood is desired, great care is given to wood selection.
FUNCTIONALITY and FLOW ~ cupboards designed for specific purposes, with no wasted space. A small kitchen doesn’t have to be space challenged.
BUILT-IN or FREE-STANDING ~ from practical cupboards to window seats, to unique one-off pieces ~ for books, storage, home-entertainment, and display.
LIGHTING & FIBER OPTICS
For lighting, I love to use brass, but I also work in glass, wood, and plastic. I use whatever is the best choice for the design and type of light.
